Abstract

The article examines political correctness as a social construct of the modern language space in public discourse which was proposed and developed in the 60s by Peter Berger and Thomas Lukman.

It is proven that in public discourse in the conditions of communication, the observance of political correctness is aimed at finding new ways of linguistic expressions instead of those that touch the feelings and dignity of an individual, in relation to race, sex, age, health, social status, appearance etc.

It is noted that political correctness, as a normalized language behavior, is inherent in any society, in particular Ukrainian, because it is related to the models of political behavior among members of society, and according to the theory of social constructivism, it has a certain potential for constructing ideas about the life of the population.

It is emphasized that the idea of political correctness as a social construct of public discourse is based on the fact that people in society learn a general point of view about most things that exist in the public consciousness, as part of a given social reality that exists objectively, but is always subjective because it is formed, interpreted and constructed by actors in the process of communication.

It was determined that political correctness, as a reality given to us and at the same time a construct of social reality, is created, constructed and assimilated by people in the form of politically correct values and norms, in order to refrain from expressions, views and actions that may be offensive to other members in the process of communication. Political correctness is a form of social organization that is constructed on the subjective knowledge of people in the process of their activities, and is a symbolic structure integrated into the model of politically correct language behavior.

In further research, it is proposed to study political correctness through the mechanisms of more active involvement of the public in the process of public administration, in particular, united territorial communities.
