The concept of “local identity” as a category in the science of public administration

In the process of decentralization and the definition of new approaches to the development of united territorial communities, the problem of local identification becomes especially important. If in the interdisciplinary approach we have a fairly wide range of research and definitions of the concept of “local identification”, then in the field of public administration its hard to find such fundamental research. The very definition of the concept becomes problematic, because we often find it in the context of synonyms of the concept, which have a slightly different meaning. According to what is already mentioned, the main purpose of the study is to define the concept of “local identity” in the categorical apparatus of public administration science. To achieve this goal, general and special methods were used, including analysis, generalization, comparison, structural method. As a result of the research, it was concluded that local identity is a fundamental motivator for the development of capable territorial communities. The local identity of the united territorial community is based on the values, cultural heritage, natural resources, economic potential of the community, as well as on the rights and responsibilities of the members of the territorial and the local community. Therefore, in the current development of united territorial communities, a lot of attention should be paid not only to the economic or social factors but also to the issue of local identity. After all, the formation of a capable territorial community is not only an administrative apparatus or innovative management method, but also active citizens who work for the benefit of their community.
